5 Ways to Build a Facebook Fan Page That Customers Love

A boring Facebook fan page is a little bit like a dinner party hosted at the bottom of the ocean – it doesn’t really matter what you’re serving, because the guests aren’t going to show up. To win customers you have to win their attention first, and that means having content and ideas that people don’t just skip over, but read, share, and come back to.

With that in mind, here are five ways to build a Facebook fan page that customers will love:

Give away “freemiums.” Everybody likes gifts, and “free” is a fan favorite just about everywhere. Take the hint and offer something your customers want, free of charge, when they become fans of your business.

Hold contests. This works the same way, but with the added fun of competitive impulses. Get your customers competing with each other – to sign up friends, or show off what they know about your products, for instance – and you’ll quickly advance your profile.

Pay them off. It’s the oldest trick in the book, but only because it works: offered discount on future orders for each person who signs up as a fan of your company. We all like to save money, so it’s a strategy that’s almost guaranteed to work.

Red Flad Deals coming to Calgary, Sign Up! YYC

If your business is interested in taking advantage of group buying marketing, take a look at this article written by Darby Sieben of the YellowPages Group. I have written a previous article on the benefits of this type of marketing. This is a great fit for many businesses, especially if your business takes advantage of the long term profitability of clients that come from these sites. ________ I had a great chat with Cara Sealock, the deal buyer manager in Calgary. She was telling me about how exciting it was to speak to local SMBs regarding the deal of the day concept and the reception so far within the Calgary market. If you have not already, sign up to receive offers at DealoftheDay.ca. (more…)

Play nice, a story of truth.

I had a very interesting experience lately that had to do with a blog posting that I wrote. The story below is real, not made up. You may get entertained, relate, or just learn a lesson. Moving on… If you do something on the internet…it may NEVER EVER go away. Here is a story I would like to share Recently I wrote a blog about my new position at eKzact Solutions. The article, which is located here, also makes reference to my resignation from Wake Media Inc. in all capacities. All of this is public information. I had comment on my blog posting very soon after, that was very interesting. This is what it said: (more…)

Why One Page Layouts are Gaining in Popularity… and What it Means for Your Business Website

Wait long enough, and anything will come back into style again. Skinny Jeans, Leg Warmers, Betty White. Maybe that explains the growing popularity of one page websites, where a short blurb about the person or company the site was built for, info on the products and services offered, contact information with social media profiles, and other pertinent data is all put into a simple, sleek layout. Or, maybe it’s just the case of giving visitors what they’re asking for. It’s not exactly earthshaking to point out that the people who visit your website have even less time than they have had in the past. They want something that’s clear, easy to load, and makes it easy to find exactly what they’re looking for in a few seconds or less. So does that mean your company should reduce its website down to one page? Absolutely not. For most businesses, that wouldn’t just be a challenge, it would be impossible. But, what it does tell you is that you should pay attention to what web visitors really want. Learn to embrace the principles of simplicity and usability; if not for love of clean design, then because it can help you make more money. Like a most men in a mall on a busy Saturday afternoon, most visitors to most retail websites want to a) Get in b) Get what they want (phone numbers, addresses, an easy purchase) c) Get out. Think about how simple facebook fanpage marketing is with this. Is it possible that a facebook fanpage strategy can help convert sales easier by the forced simplicity

10 Rules of Social Media WestJet Lives By

I recently had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation, during a Social Media breakfast in Calgary, about how WestJet has taken advantage of Social Media. The presenter was Greg Hounslow (@sixfourg), Emerging Media Advisor with West Jet.

Companies like WestJet, Ikea, Starbucks, Ford, all have incredible results with Social Media Marketing. However, most of the online marketing events I attend are all about these mammoth companies. I often engage in conversation with small to mid sized businesses that say “That presentation on (large company) was impressive, but I am a small business. What does that mean for me?”

How do you use Social Media when you do not have:

- 25,000 fans on your business page? –  3,000 followers on Twitter – Serve the local community, not an entire nation – 10,000 employees who all contribute to your social media strategy
